Reimagining Tomorrow: Queer Futures in Full Color

What does liberation look like when it lives everyday?
In the neighbour who shares their food. The artist who paints protest into public space. The trans youth who walk into a clinic demanding care they were never meant to access.
Imagine a future assembled from the lived knowledge of those who’ve endured what others only theorize. A future that rises from the quiet force of communities long dismissed. A future led not by permission, but by necessity. This is where real change takes root: in survival that insists on more than survival, in structure born from care, in work too often unseen but deeply felt.
That is the future we honour this June.
Pride is the quiet courage of those who care when no one is watching. It lives in spreadsheets and street marches, in mutual aid bags and policy drafts. It’s the rhythm of a community resilient, resourceful, and deeply rooted.
This month, we shine light on those building that future with their hands and hearts: the organizers, healers, artists, and cultural workers whose labour moves beyond performance. Their work isn’t symbolic. It’s fundamental.
This edition is a love letter to them. To their presence, not just their promise. It moves beside them—and insists that we pay attention.
Sincerely,
Featured Story: Faces of the Community: Building Queer Futures Together
What makes a future queer?
It’s who shows up when no one else does. Who organizes after hours. Who turns lived experience into infrastructure and care into strategy.
Queer futures aren’t abstract. They’re built by real people whose work doesn’t always make headlines—but makes liberation possible. This month, we’re honouring the many forms that work takes: groceries dropped off in silence, code written with consent in mind, circles of care held together in school gyms and kitchen tables.
At Enchanté, we believe that community is the strategy. Through Afrofuturism and lived practice, we see the future not as something distant, but something already being shaped—by those who refuse to wait for permission.

Spotlight on Refugee Support
To honour World Refugee Day (June 20), we highlight three organizations doing frontline work to support queer and trans refugees in Canada and beyond.
Capital Rainbow Refuge: Based in Ottawa, Capital Rainbow Refuge helps sponsor and resettle LGBTQI+ individuals fleeing persecution. They work closely with communities and local sponsors to provide safe housing, social support, and long-term integration pathways. Learn more
African Centre for Refugees: This Toronto-based organization advocates for African and Black asylum seekers, many of whom face unique challenges within the Canadian refugee system. They provide legal referrals, housing support, and community connection for queer African newcomers. Explore their work
Rainbow Railroad: A global leader in crisis response, Rainbow Railroad helped over 8,000 LGBTQI+ people in 2023 who were facing state-sponsored violence or persecution. Their urgent response, resettlement, and advocacy work make them a vital lifeline for queer people in danger. Visit site

In Case You Missed It
May was a powerful month of grounding, growth, and momentum.
We marked Sexual Health Awareness Month by celebrating bodily autonomy, desire, and dignity. Through minimalist visuals, affirmations, and everyday storytelling, we highlighted the brilliance of grassroots educators, Two-Spirit healers, and trans health advocates—pushing back against gatekeeping and insisting on community-led care. Our message was clear: sexual health isn’t a privilege. It’s a right, and a radical act of self-determination.
In March, we wrapped our first-ever Strategic Plan—a bold, member-driven roadmap guiding us through 2025–2028. This milestone is the result of deep consensus-building, reflection, and vision across the Enchanté Network. Want a peek at what’s ahead?

We also released our Annual Report, capturing the powerful lessons of the past year:
📌 Strategic investment builds resilience — Over $535,000 distributed through the Rainbow Resilience Fund.
📢 Collective advocacy drives change — 50% of members mobilized for a federal budget submission.
🌱 Community-led learning fosters leadership — 400+ service providers trained nationwide.
We learned. We adapted. We grew—and we’re just getting started.
Finally, we joined 30 national and provincial 2SLGBTQI+, feminist, and healthcare organizations in a joint letter to New Brunswick’s Minister of Health. The call? For urgent action on gender-affirming care. With innovative models already adopted in places like PEI, New Brunswick has the opportunity to lead. Gender-affirming care is not optional—it’s lifesaving healthcare.📄 Read the letter
Conclusion
Queer futures are not abstract—they’re already unfolding in the daily, often invisible work of our communities. Whether it's trans youth coding platforms for consent, an elder running a peer support line after hours, or a small team building out a national 2SLGBTQI+ organization from a kitchen table—this is the architecture of liberation.
Every spreadsheet, care circle, zine, grant proposal, and drop-in session matters. These aren’t just tasks. They’re tools. They’re testimony. They’re the threads weaving the future into being.
We each carry a piece of the vision.
Let’s keep going.
