A $25M Commitment to Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Sector

A $25M Commitment to Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Sector

Canada’s first Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan represents a historic milestone—one shaped by years of collective advocacy led by community organizations, including The Enchanté Network. Since our founding in 2019, we have championed the need for sustained, meaningful federal investment in the 2SLGBTQI+ sector. That effort helped secure the government’s $100 million commitment, including $75 million flowing directly to 2SLGBTQI+ organizations over five years.

Today, TEN is calling for the next step:
An additional $25 million in annual federal funding to ensure long-term stability, stronger regional equity, and sustainable services for 2SLGBTQI+ people across Canada.

Why $25 Million Matters

Decades of chronic underfunding have left many community-led organizations without the resources required to meet growing needs. While the Federal Action Plan marks a meaningful shift, the current investment is not enough to close the gap for organizations providing critical services such as:

  • Gender-affirming support

  • Mental health and peer services

  • Programs for newcomers, refugees, and youth

  • Safer spaces and community centres

  • Rural, Northern, and Indigenous-led initiatives

2SLGBTQI+ communities continue to face violence, exclusion, and systemic barriers. To meet these realities, funding must reflect the scale and urgency of the need. As we stated publicly, without clear implementation timelines and adequate resourcing, communities risk being marginalized and overlooked once again.

Our Vision for Sustainable Sector Funding

TEN is advocating for a federal investment model that ensures long-term stability—not short-term project cycles. This includes:

1. Annual Core Funding for 2SLGBTQI+ Organizations

Reliable funding to maintain staff, programming, and essential services nationwide.

2. Support for Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ Resurgence

Dedicated funds to strengthen Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer organizations, leadership, and land-based programming.

3. Investments in Regional Equity

Funding tailored to the realities of rural, remote, and Northern communities, where access gaps remain significant.

4. A National 2SLGBTQI+ Endowment Fund

A long-term strategy for stability beyond political cycles—supporting self-determination and community-led solutions.

What the Community Is Saying

Organizations across the country have celebrated the Action Plan while also naming the gaps that remain:

  • A need for physical infrastructure in provinces without dedicated 2SLGBTQI+ centres

  • Greater prioritization of trans communities and their unique needs

  • Increased protection, visibility, and support for 2SLGBTQI+ people experiencing hate and violence

These voices shape our call for sustained federal commitment.

Our Commitment

The Enchanté Network will continue to advocate, mobilize, and work alongside our 200+ member organizations to ensure federal investment reaches communities equitably and meaningfully.

As Executive Director Tyler Boyce has said:
“This historic Action Plan is a springboard for our brilliance and innovation. The work of our members existed before this plan and must continue long after.”

Join the Movement

We invite partners, policymakers, organizations, and community members to stand with us in calling for $25 million in sustained annual funding and a stronger, more equitable future for 2SLGBTQI+ people across Canada.
