Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan: Our Response

Canada has taken an historic step with the release of its first-ever Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan—a milestone The Enchanté Network has long advocated for. Since 2019, we have championed national investment in 2SLGBTQI+ communities, helping pave the way for a $100 million federal commitment, with the majority of funding directed to community-led organizations.

This plan recognizes the urgent need for sustainable funding, support for emerging priorities, and dedicated investments in Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ resilience and resurgence. It reflects years of collective advocacy and the leadership of community organizations across the country.

At the same time, the absence of clear implementation timelines is a serious concern. Without transparency and accountability, there is a risk that communities—particularly those already structurally excluded—may once again be overlooked. We continue to call on the federal government to release timelines, engage meaningfully with civil society, and ensure that commitments translate into action.

Across Canada, our 200-plus member organizations remain on the front lines: supporting newcomers and refugees, connecting trans and nonbinary community members with affirming care, and strengthening local 2SLGBTQI+ services during a time of rising social division. While this investment provides much-needed support, it is not sufficient to address decades of chronic underfunding.

That is why we continue to advocate for a National 2SLGBTQI+ Endowment Fund—a long-term mechanism that ensures sustainability, community self-determination, and stability beyond five-year strategies or election cycles.

As Executive Director Tyler Boyce shared, this moment is a springboard: “Our communities are a beacon, imagining a more just and inclusive future for all… The Enchanté Network will work to make sure this Action Plan has an impact from coast to coast to coast while laying the groundwork for a stronger, more sustainable 2SLGBTQI+ sector once the Plan sunsets.”

Our commitment is unwavering. This plan is the beginning—not the end—of the work ahead.
