The 2SLGBTQ+ Centre Summit 2.0 Summary Report documents the historic 2019 gathering in Ottawa where leaders from across Canada built consensus on the vision, mission, and structure for a national network of 2SLGBTQ+ organizations—what would soon become The Enchanté Network.

The Summit 2.0 Summary Report (2019) captures a pivotal moment in Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ history. Convened in Ottawa on February 5–6, 2019, this two-day working summit brought together leaders from 2SLGBTQ+ centres nationwide to co-create a national framework for collaboration, representation, and sustainability.

Building on the momentum of the first Leadership Summit (2018) held in Saskatoon, the assembled group developed the foundational vision and structure for what would become The Enchanté Network, Canada’s first national network of 2SLGBTQI+ organizations.

Key Outcomes

  1. Establishment of a Working Name
    Enchanté: a network of 2SLGBTQ+ centres of Canada / Enchanté : un réseau de centres 2SLGBTQ au Canada.

  2. Shared Vision & Mission

    • Vision: An intersectional, thriving Two-Spirit, gender and sexually diverse network that connects, enriches, and sustains healthy, decolonized communities from coast to coast to coast.

    • Mission: To build and maintain a network that develops and shares programs, resources, and knowledge to support strong, sustainable 2SLGBTQ+ organizations.

  3. Core Values
    Accessibility, consensus, care, reconciliation, adaptability, respect, accountability, and intergenerational learning.

  4. Membership Framework

    • Open to 2SLGBTQ+-led community organizations providing ongoing services and programming.

    • Fee structure designed to ensure accessibility and equity across organizational sizes and budgets.

  5. Program Streams Identified
    Six foundational areas were agreed upon:

    • Research

    • Communities of Practice

    • Mentorship

    • Resources & Training

    • Conferences & Summits

    • Advocacy

  6. Formation of the Interim Working Board
    The Group of 13—one representative from each province and territory—was established to guide incorporation and governance, ensuring equity and decolonial practices.

  7. Lead Organization & Funding Strategy
    The Rainbow Resource Centre (Winnipeg) was confirmed as the lead administrative organization, with federal support from Canadian Heritage and the LGBTQ2 Secretariat. Plans were made to pursue long-term operational funding through WAGE and ESDC.

Legacy

This report serves as the blueprint for The Enchanté Network’s founding and reflects the vision of 2SLGBTQ+ leaders determined to build sustainable, inclusive infrastructure for community organizations across Canada.
